Valerie Longshore-Sargent

Valerie Longshore-Sargent is a lifelong resident of LaGrange. She graduated from LaGrange College with a Bachelors degree in Theatre Arts and is finishing her thesis for her Master's degree in Theatre Education at Columbus State University. 

Valerie is a charter member of the Lafayette Theatre Company. She has worn may hats within the company, including director, performer, technician and designer. She is also proud to be the founder of Lafayette Theatre Academy. What was once a summer camp, has now grown into a full range of classes for all ages. 

In addition to the working for the LSPA, Valerie has been teaching theatre at Harris County High School for the past ten years. Her unique teaching style has lead to her earning the Golden Apple Award from WRBL (Columbus), a nomination for the Sara Spano Top Teacher Award (Columbus Ledger) and was named Teacher of the Year for the 2013-14 school year at Harris County High School. 

Under her direction, students have earned the highest honors at the Georgia Thespian Conference, Georgia High School Association (one-act and literary)  and the International Thespian Festival. She is pleased that so many of her students have gone on to pursue careers in theatre and film.

"I am an enthusiastic, caring educator that believes that everyone can benefit from the arts and an arts education. Having the ability to express ourselves is a core need that in often under nourished.  The LSPA is dedicated to providing quality educational classes, entertainment opportunities and out-reach programs so that everyone in LaGrange and the surrounding areas can thrive as an arts community."
